cards lined with vintage sheet music!
last weekend before heading up to see billy joel and elton john in fargo, i stopped by ross’s neighbor’s yard sale. not only were his neighbors super awesome, they had sweet vintage stuff from new york! among the things i picked up were some beautiful large sheets of yellowed vintage blank sheet music. i immediately thought of what i could make with them and, of course, cards came to mind. these are the first two cards i made using the sheet music. they both are made of 100% recycled brownbag paper. the photos are matted onto the same wonderfully fibrous handmade paper i used in the mpls skyline cards. inside i’ve attached the sheet music for you to write on, over or around. or send someone a song! i love these cards. the torn handmade paper and the music set onto the rougher cardstock really gives them a nice personality. definitely a unique way to send a note to a friend. :)

minneapolis skyline
i love the minneapolis skyline and have taken a bunch of pictures from all sorts of angles. these three pictures include three different angles of the minneapolis skyline, taken on my elikon 35cm. they come with cornflower blue envelopes and the cards are sky blue cardstock. the photos are matted onto a gorgeous hand made black paper that i found at the paper depot. this paper is very fibrous and tears beautifully, which adds great texture to the card. i can’t get enough of it! :D

off the franklin bridge over i-35/i-94e ramp near 5th ave.

right over the 1-94 e/downtown exits ramp near the convention center.

same place as above, just closer to the convention ctr.
elliot park in early spring
elliot park is the neighborhood i live in. it’s right outside of downtown minneapolis and it’s quite a diverse neighborhood. it’s definitely urban, but also houses a christian university (north central university). the pictures on these cards were taken in elliot park early this spring.
the colors i chose for the cards reflect an early midwestern spring. brilliant blue sky envelopes, dark spring green hand torn matting, and dry winter grass cards.

these red doors are a few blocks away, on an old apartment building off chicago. there are always lots of sweet bikes locked in front of this building.
this is an accidental double (triple?) exposure. it shows some elliot park buildings and the north central university skyway. this multi-exposure pic ended up lining up really nicely and looks great in person.
this is a shot down one of the streets that’s on taz’s short route. that’s the way we go when we’re just walking around the block.
you can check out the originals of all of these at my flickr. these pictures were all taken on my elikon 35CM commie cam on color kodak 35mm film. they are untouched except for cropping and resizing.

other examples of grad cards
these are a few pics from the custom grad cards i made for two etsy customers. they both had purple and gold as school colors. i think they turned out great! it’s hard to tell from the pictures, but the purple cardstock is a beautiful eggplant color. love it!

nearly done!
i’ve been incredibly busy getting my act together for the waning days of law school. i have a few days off here between finals, so more will soon be posted!
as an update, i have made my first 3 etsy sales! 2 sets of custom grad announcements (will post pics of them) and a set of cheapies. the cheapies were bought as a sample… for a 270 card order! here’s hoping she likes them and places that huge order. they’d be 90 sets of 3 cheapies (tied together with ribbon) to be used as wedding party favors! :D i’ll let you know when i know.
wish me luck on these last few days!

for the class of 2009 – graduation announcements!
after much confusion and postponement, graduation is only three weeks away and i still hadn’t ordered grad announcements! what’s a girl to do? i decided to make my own, and they turned out AWESOME!. so awesome, in fact, that i think other people will want them. that is, if they aren’t on the ball and also put off ordering grad announcements. check out my etsy shop to order!
obviously, if you want me to make your grad cards, i will customize color, font, paper, design, etc. mine are 3 layers – vellum printed with school seal layered over natural opaque paper with all the info layered over textured weave dark red paper. you can have 2-4 layers on yours.
not only are these grad announcements (comparatively) cheap, beautiful, and classy… they come with 100% recycled brown bag envelopes!
this is what mine turned out like. the vellum top layer makes them a bit difficult to photograph, but you get the idea. :)
